3D Education and Learning

3Dsimulation

After 3D Internet getting a start, I think time has come for 3D education and learning environment to move out from research labs on to the desktops. Recently, a living example was set up which was the first of its kind in United States. The VLE or Virtual Learning Environment is now located at Chesapeake High School in Essex, Md.
Software engineers at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), in Laurel, Md., in collaboration with JHU’s Centre for Technology in Education have developed a prototype Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) to provide Baltimore County students with a gaming-like experience to augment existing math and science curricula.

Another notable new development in US is that by Kentucky Community & Technical College System. The KCTCS Interactive Digital Centre has come out with solutions to support workforce development, teaching and learning. They specialise in 3D simulation for teaching as well as trainings. The services are open for any organization.

Some of the companies which develop 3D content for education are:
EON Reality I-Catcher
3DVIA Virtools – Dassault Systèmes
Neotek
Safari Montage

One open source 3D content developer tool which can be used for developing content is Blender.

The time’s not faraway when our kids will learn Kepler’s laws of planetary motion on 3D Simulators!
